Welcome

I will always welcome the rain

On New Year’s Day.

Always welcome

the tears from heaven

to cleanse away

all the things

I cannot name

but hold me back all the same

I would dance naked in this rain

In all the tears

And salt

from heaven’s eye

Just to let it all go

and start a fresh.

But prying eyes

and wicked tongues

would toss all the muck

back

And all the rain

On New Year’s Day

would go to waste

I think I’ll go instead

in my bathing suit

Nothing to say

About a woman

in a bathing suit

walking a dog in the rain

On New Year’s Day

When you’re hungover

And dancing in it.
